Shri Mangeshi temple, located in Mangeshi village in Ponda, Goa. The Shree Manguesh Temple is one of the most prominent temples not only of Goa but of India. It is at a distance of 22 km from Panaji the capital of Goa. This temple was constructed in the year 1764 by Shri Ramchandra Malhar. But the real temple was ruined by Portuguese rulers in 1543. The Shri Mangesh temple is significantly dedicated to Lord Shiva and belongs to the Hindu Goan people as well as typically styled with Goan architecture.

The Shiva Linga in the temple is worshipped for 3 times a day with Shodshopchar pujas, including Abhishek, Laghurudra and Maharudra followed by Maha Aarti. The festivals which are celebrated in this temple, includes Dusshera, Ramanavami, Anant Vritotsava, Diwali and Akshaya Tritiya.

The major festival falls in February, that is the Magh Purnima, which draws colorful crowds and thousands of tourists. The temple organizes an annual festival on the Poornima, which is known as Rath Yatra, and celebrated in the Magh month, last week of February.

The Shri Mangesh Temple is known for its distinctive Goan Konkani style and is even made famous because it is the Kula-devasthan of Lata Mangeshkar.

Every Monday, the idol of Shri Mangesh is taken out at night before the Aarti for a Palakhi procession, followed by instrumental music and bhajans. It is a must-see event, which is a grand weekly.

The temple has recently banned entry of foreigners into the temple citing objectionable dressing and conduct as the reason
